Individual Article Analysis (30%)
Guidelines & Rubric
This is an individual assignment. You will be assigned an article and your overall objectives are to:
- Characterize the major focus (minor, as well) of the article.
- Appraise the importance, value, and/or impact of the reading uponbusiness and society.
- Examine critically the assumptions and analysis of the article.
- Construct alternative approaches.
- Propose further research stemming from the article.
The article you have been assigned is (Fall 2020): “Why Do Employees Resist Change” by Paul Strebel
FORMAT:
- Compose an essay not to exceed 3000 words (APA Style, 1″ margin, double-spaced, 8-12 pages exclusive of cover page, table of contents and appendix if any) that is clear and concise
- As indicated in the Course Planning Calendar
- Lateness will be penalised at the rate of 10% per day
Here is a suggested format for your article analysis:
Introduction
- State the title of the article that you are analyzing, specify author’s name and the date of publication
- Outline main ideas and focus of article
- Come up with your own thesis statement
Summary of Article
- Provide a brief outline of the main ideas presented in article
- Answer the questions what, why, who, when and how exactly.
- Discuss the structure of an article that you are working with (style and the point of view)
Analysis / Evidence
- State what you like and what you do not like about the article in a critical way.
- Which assumptions do you agree with? Not agree with? Why?
- Explain your ideas and provide specific examples and research as appropriate.
- What are some of the alternative ideas to those presented in the article?
- What are the opposite ideologies and/or what approaches do opponents adopt?
- Propose further research stemming from the article.
Assigned Discussion Questions
- Why would managers and employees view change differently?
- What does it require to make change effective?
- How does COVID-19 affect changes in work/study environment? How does it impact you as an employee or as a student? (You may use “I” “We” when you answer this individual question.)
Conclusion
- Summarize your main thesis and ideas presented, using core points in a different tone.
- Summarize whether you agree or disagree with the article
